Yesterday I promised to write about what I called "the worst thing money can buy." So what was I referring to? Well here's the story:
So yesterday my mom and I were driving to see my grandmother in the hospital (she's fine, though) when my mom decides to stop at the grocery store to buy flowers. So I started thinking: why? What is the deal with flowers? They are pointless. You know how much money we could all save if women didn't like flowers so much? I just don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something, but the whole idea just seems ridiculous to me.
I voiced my opinion to my mom. She didn't understand my perspective at all, saying, "it's the thought that counts." That's when the bullshit detector went off. Where's the thought in buying someone flowers? Let's say you got a loved one on their death bed. I know! Let's buy 'em flowers! Then we can write on the card 'Hey Grandpa! Here's something that'll die before you will!'
It just doesn't make sense to me to spend so much money on something that look and smell nice for maybe a week, then die, and you throw them out. Flowers have to be the only thing that works like that. You don't spend $75 on anything else that's going to be completely useless in a week, do you? It just doesn't make any sense. What's the point? There isn't one. Now if they were made of plastic, fine, because at least they would last. I'm all for plastic flowers. It's the real ones I have a problem with.
'It's the thought that counts.' My ass. Here, I bought you a PEZ dispenser. I had a THOUGHT that I could save some money and get you something you could get more use out of. That's some thought that counts for something.
To my dismay, my mom did purchase the flowers, despite my protests. And you know what's a damn shame? There was a dollar store right next to the grocery store. You know how many things we could've bought for her instead of flowers? Literally thousands of items to choose from, all more useful and entertaining that some dumbass flowers.. It's a damn shame.
