There is absolutely no reason why that movie 'Coach Carter' should make one cent in the box office. Not one reason. No one should go see that movie. Why? Because it's a waste of money and two hours. Have I seen it? Of course not. Then how do I know no one should go see it? Because I don't have to see it to know exactly what it's about and what happens. So if you had even the slightest interest in seeing this movie, forget it. Just read the next paragraph, and I'll save you time and money. And now I present to you, 'Coach Carter' in a nutshell.
So here's the deal: the setting is a low class, mostly black community, filled with violence and drugs and hardships. The high school basketball team is life to these people. The kids on the team excel on the court, but have no direction or motivation in school. Basketball is their life, and they don't realize that once high school is over, they won't have an education and they'll end up selling drugs and getting shot and having their shoes stolen off their feet. It seems everyone in this "hood" is doomed. But oh wait! Here comes Coach Carter, a wise, older guy who wants to give back to the community, probably because of some personal hardships he faced in his youth. Coach Carter knows what these boys are going through. And Coach Carter can help! He's going to make them realize that knowledge is POWER, and that there's more to life than basketball. It'll catch people off guard at first, and the players and those in the community with nothing better to do in their lives than watch high school basketball will rebel. But Coach Carter holds firm. Pretty soon, the players learn the value of an education, and excel in the classroom. At the same time, it brings them all closer together as a team, and they succeed on the court. But that's not the important part. They've learned valuable life lessons that they'll forget as soon as they graduate (which they will because Coach Carter helped them because he's so awesome and all).
So there you have it. Coach Carter in a paragraph, and you still have your $5 and most of the two hours it would have taken to watch the film. While I haven't seen the film, and don't intend to, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happens. You could probably throw in the "unfortunate" murder of a semi-major character and also a few relationships, maybe even an illegitimate child. But that's basically it. You can thank me later.
